Food

Feed your neighbors.

Local food is not a miniature version of an industrial system. It is a different relationship among land, producer, animal, food, and eater.

Alternatives by doing

If a centralized model is broken, one response is to spend a lifetime arguing with it. Another is to build local alternatives that work well enough to make parts of the old model less necessary.

That can mean vegetables, peppers and sauce, eggs, meat, direct-to-consumer sales, a small premium herd, a farm store, a boutique retail outlet, or something not yet imagined.

Transparency

People should be able to understand how their food is produced. Tours, education, direct relationships, and an open posture toward the surrounding community fit naturally here.

Good food should also be good

Utility is not enough. Flavor, beauty, hospitality, celebration, and joy belong in the system too.
